Mental disorders are life long illnesses that can be
controlled but never cured. At times they are debilitating, others a simple annoyance. Whether its depression, one of the many anxiety disorders, or bipolar disorder, mental illness
interferes with normal life, creating problems with
everything from relationships to school work to jobs.

“I’m Going Mental” does not attempt to offer medical advice or diagnosis, but it does allow for an open discussion about mental disorders and dispels the stigma often attached to them. Because of her stand-up comedy background, Michelle manages to walk the tight rope between education and humor without losing the sensitivity
required for such a difficult subject matter.

This lecture touches up on the history of mental illness and
how it affects people today. By discussing how treatment options have drastically changed over the years, “I’m Going Mental” helps to calm some of the fears associated with these disorders and
encourages people to actually go for help.

With a focus on depression, anxiety disorders, and bipolar disorder, “I’m Going Mental” is a lecture about mental illness
...with a dose of humor.

“I’m Going Mental” is Bass-Schuler’s newest lecture that blends education with comedy. Expanding on her successful eating disorder/body image lecture “Fat Brain/Skinny Body”, college circuit veteran, Michelle Garb, has created a program that
focuses on mental disorders.

Years after being diagnosed with depression, Michelle’s doctors realized she was actually suffering from bipolar disorder (manic-depression). Because many mental disorder symptoms are interchangeable, this is not an
uncommon occurrence.
